Kenneth David Harbin, known to most as David—or simply “Coach”—was born March 30, 1951, and passed away on April 14, 2026, at the age of 75.

David was a devoted husband to Charlene Moore Harbin, and a proud father to his daughter, Amy Stracner (Randy), and his son, Clay Harbin (Jessica). He was a deeply loving grandfather to Kelsey West (Austin), Kennedy Stracner, Libby Burkholder, and Tate Burkholder, and a great-grandfather to Drake, Dan, Ellie J., and Piper, all of whom knew him as “Papa.” He loved his many nieces and nephews, who held a  special place in his life, and he shared a special bond with his brother, Boe, who was his lifelong best friend.

David lived most of his life in Parrish, Alabama, where he built not only a home, but a life rooted in the community he loved. A capable and  hardworking man, he quite literally built his family home with his own two hands, something that stood as a reflection of his work ethic, pride,  and commitment to those he cared for.

A graduate of Parrish High School and the University of Alabama at Birmingham, David dedicated much of his life to education. He served as  a teacher at T.W. Martin High School and Parrish Elementary School, where he made a lasting impact on the lives of countless students. In  addition to teaching, he was a football coach for many years and took great pride in helping young men develop through teamwork, discipline, and accountability. To many of those he taught and coached, he was simply known as “Coach,” a title he carried with pride long after his years on the field.

David proudly served his country in the United States Army as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. His service reflected the strength,  discipline, and commitment that he carried throughout every part of his life.

Outside of his professional life, David was an avid gardener and a skilled handyman, always finding purpose in working with his hands. He  was also known for his sense of humor, often quick-witted and able to bring lightness to those around him.

David will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his commitment to his students, his love for his community, and the steady,  dependable presence he provided for those around him.

The memorial service will be held at Glory Fellowship Baptist Church in Jasper, Alabama, on Saturday, April 18, 2026. The family will receive  friends at 11:00 a.m., followed by a service at 12:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Imago Dei Academy:  https://imagodei-academy.org/donate/
