Margaret Louis Clem died peacefully on January 5 in Athens at the age of 92.
Margaret is survived by a brother, Thomas Melvin Clem, his wife, Ruth Cross Clem; sisters in law, Gloria Hill Clem and Rachel Davis Clem; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by brothers, Richard Greer Clem, Jr. and William Charles Clem; sister, Elizabeth Kirk Clem; and sister in law Frances Durham Clem.
Margaret was born on December 3, 1922 to Richard Greer Clem and Ruby Tibbets Clem. She graduated from Athens High School in 1941 and the University of Tennessee with a baccalaureate and masters degree in Home Economics. After moving to Knoxville, Margaret began working for the University of Tennessee Agricultural Extension Service. She retired as district superintendent in the Chattanooga area and returned to Athens in 1982.
Margaret was an accomplished artist specializing in landscape, still life, and china painting. She enjoyed involvement in many clubs and groups including Daughters of the American Revolution, Three Arts Club, Quest Club, Glen Auger Garden Club, Beautification Board, AAUW, and ALUW. Margaret was an active and dedicated member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church, Athens.
The funeral is scheduled for January 7, 12:00 noon, at First Presbyterian Church on the square in Athens. Visitation will be held at 11:00 AM also at the church. Reverend David Palmer will officiate.
