Richard Lee “Dick” Klan – Obituary

Richard Lee “Dick” Klan died at Huntsville Hospital on Friday, February 20, 2015, following complications from lung disease. He was 83.

Dick was born in Alliance, Ohio on October 10, 1931, to Albert and Josephine (Stumpholl) Klan. He joined the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. He graduated from Mount Union College in Ohio with a degree in Physics and Math, and later earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. Dick Klan and Nancy Precise were married in 1953 in Alliance.

After working for a time in Ohio, Dick & Nancy relocated their family to Huntsville, Alabama in 1964, where Dick was employed as an engineer at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center. Following retirement from NASA in 1989, he worked for several contractors in Huntsville; including Sierra Lobo for whom he contributed actively well into his 70s.

Dick is survived by his wife, Nancy; children, Mark (Donna), Rebecca Watts, and John; grandchildren, Marshall, Gillian, Leslie, Jason, Joseph, and Mitchell; and great-grandchild, Caroline. He is also survived by brother, James Klan and sister, Joan Rastani.

Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, Huntsville, Alabama. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Huntsville Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
