Ms. Karen "Kay" Marie McCray Ms. Karen “Kay” McCray, born on February 14, 1957, left this world on January 18, 2024, at the age of 66. A native of Altoona, Alabama, Kay’s life was characterized by love, kindness, and a profound dedication to her family.
Kay is survived by her loving daughters, Misti Walraven and April Pounds (Johnnie Earl). She was a cherished Meme to her four beautiful grandchildren, Logan Walraven, Kyler Santoro, Emma Pounds, and Aubrey Earl. She also leaves behind her brother Howard “Buster” McCray Jr. (Judith), sisters Donna Bellew and Melissa Shaver, and her lifelong friend Nina Clowdus Mathis. Kay’s family and friends meant the world to her, and her presence in their lives brought immeasurable joy.
Preceding her in death are her parents Howard Clinton Sr. and Mary Sue McCray.
She loved to watch her grandchildren’s sporting events; Kay found immense joy in cheering them on from the sidelines. She also had a deep love for music and spent many cherished moments at the piano. For a significant portion of her life, Kay owned Rainbow Chevron Station, and her commitment to helping others and her sense of community made her a beloved figure. Kay’s love for family extended beyond her own, as she cared for the elderly with the same warmth and compassion she showed to her own loved ones.
Kay’s life was a testament to the power of kindness and the impact one person can have on the lives of many. As we bid farewell to a remarkable woman, let us remember Kay for her love, her generosity, and the indelible mark she left on the hearts of those fortunate enough to know her.
May she rest in eternal peace.
