David Andrew Trent LTC David Andrew “Andy” Trent, U.S. Air Force Retired, 64, of Lacey’s Spring, AL passed away Friday in Birmingham, AL. He was a cherished husband, father, and grandfather “Brackaw.” Andy was born in Selma, AL and graduated from Auburn University and the University of Wyoming.

Andy devotedly served over 21 years in the U.S. Air Force in multiple key positions, most notably as a disciplined and highly decorated Space and Missiles Operations Officer. Andy was instrumental in many advancements of our nation’s missile defense capability and the highlight of his career as a missile combat crewmember epitomized the Missileer, known unofficially but more affectionately among missile crews as a “SAC Trained Killer.” His individual contributions to the U.S. Strategic Missile Defense program and his highly proficient role in operations directly assisted with initial recessions that ultimately led to the end of the U.S.–Soviet Cold War. Andy continued supporting the nation’s defense for another 17 years as an operations manager for TRW/Northrop Grumman before retiring in 2018.

Andy was an active member of Christ Presbyterian Church PCA in Hampton Cove, AL. Andy was a capable woodworker and auto mechanic who frequently and generously volunteered his able services to family members, church members, neighbors, and even stranded motorists. Recently Andy enjoyed restoring an antique MG car, kayaking with his friends, volunteering at the Scottsboro PCA church plant, encouraging good citizenship, growing in his Christian faith, and helping educate his grandchildren, his utmost joy.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Andrew Trent and brother, Thomas Andrew Trent of Prattville, AL. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, S’ine Ducker Trent; daughter, Erica Trent McNeese (William) of Huntsville, AL; son, Ian Andrew Trent of Greensboro, NC; mother, Marilyn Joyce Trent of Huntsville, AL; two grandchildren, Abigail Fiona McNeese and Stirling Nathaniel McNeese of Huntsville, AL; an uncle; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8th, at Christ Presbyterian Church PCA followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Michael Calvert, Ph.D. officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Huntsville, AL with military honors.
