Casey E. Whitson passed away peacefully at home on January 3, 2021. He was born in Anaheim, California on February 5, 1987, the son of Kim Whitson and Cynthia Christopher.
Casey was a sophomore at Grissom High School in 2003, when he was severely injured while enjoying Spring break with some of his close friends in Florida. For 18 years, Casey put up a tremendous fight recovering from numerous major surgeries and overcoming other illnesses that resulted from his significant injury. His family and friends did not take for granted, but instead counted each and every day we had with him as a true blessing. Despite the seriousness of his condition and the accompanying pain, Casey had a constant smile and an occasional laugh that was both heartwarming and joyful to the many who loved him dearly. Casey’s parents want to offer a special thanks to all of his caregivers over the years, including Shonda, Mary, Melissa, Jackie, Patty, Cashay, and many, many others.
Casey enjoyed participating in sports, particularly football and wrestling; going to football games with his dad; eating anything and everything cooked by his mom; visiting with his maternal grandparents, Bud and Patricia Black; and spending time with his close friends. While too many to name, his close friends include Creighton McIntyre, Cassady (Sims) Nabors, Lauren (Smith) Stiles, Justin Stiles, Garett Elrod, and Brandon Magill.
Casey is preceded in death by his twin brothers, Jeremy and Jason; his maternal grandfather, Vernon Clinton (Bud) Black; paternal grandparents Howard Eugene and Ruth Quilliams Whitson; and uncles Kenneth and Keith Whitson.
Casey is survived by his parents, Cynthia Black Christopher (Wayne) and Kim E. Whitson (Carmon Hogan); maternal grandmother Patricia England Black; sister Emily Whitson; brothers Logan Christopher and Christopher Buckner; uncle Gary Black (Tracy); aunts Karen Renfro and Karla West (Jack); and numerous cousins.
A memorial service for Casey will be held at Nichols Arbor in the Huntsville Botanical Gardens on Saturday, January 9, 2021, from 2:00 – 4:00pm. The Botanical Gardens require masks be worn inside all venues.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC.org), or to your favorite charity.
