Agnes Bethune Price, age 92, of Huntsville passed away Friday after having just celebrated her birthday with presents, cake, and close friends. Beth was born on July 12, 1931, in Gambier, Ohio. She was a graduate of The University of Ohio and spent 20 years as a Research Librarian for the department of the Army on Redstone Arsenal.

Rehabbing cottages in downtown Huntsville was one of Beth’s passions. She moved the family onto Clinton Avenue before the creation of the Old Town Historic District and was part of the group that worked to add the area to the National Register of Historic Places. Over the years, Beth made her mark on several homes in historic Huntsville neighborhoods. She also enjoyed reading, traveling, collecting cookbooks, and entertaining friends. There was a special place in her heart for animals and she befriended many pets and the occasional injured bird.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Corwin and Agnes Roach, as well as her son, James Spencer Price, and a beloved sister, Mary Sawyer.

Her life is celebrated by her son, John Price of Huntsville; as well as a niece, Tamzin Sugiyama and her husband, Alexander; grandnieces, Claire and Phoebe of Tucson AZ; and her many friends.

Funeral arrangements to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to U24 to support Ukraine.
