Mary Ann Wallace the second of four children, born in Greenwood, Mississippi on April 10, 1953, to the late Henry Lee Wallace and Martha Lacey Wallace who preceded her in death. Mary, relocated to Chicago, Illinois in the late 1960’s to begin her adult life where she met and married the father of her children Leon Thomas in 1972, who preceded her in death. Mary gave her life to Christ in 1972 at People’s Church of God in Christ under the leadership of the late Pastor, William Eady Sr. She was a faithful member for many years, Mary believed as the bible said to “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it”. She raised her three children in the fear of the Lord and instilled Godly principles within them. Throughout her journey with Christ, Mary and her family eventually joined God’s Love Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of the late Pastor Lester Alexander. Mary spent a large part of life in Chicago where she established relationships that would last a lifetime.
Later in her life Mary relocated to Huntsville, Alabama to be closer to her sister Diana McCullough. Although Huntsville was her home for many years, Mary lived for a short time in Atlanta, Georgia where her youngest son resided, Merrick Thomas. Mary had many talents and gifts, but the gift she was known best for and passionately shared with her friends and family was her cooking and baking, any dish you can think of she could do it and do it well. Her famous jelly cakes, Carmel cakes, yellow and chocolate cakes, and the list goes on but don’t forget about that Sweet Potato Pie. Her cooking was one quality, but her infectious smile, laughter, and friendly personality made her a loveable woman. She never met a stranger and could talk to you about any and everything. Mary was not shy about her fashions, she loved to dress up, and smell good.
In her life, she was loved by many and shared the same love to her family, friends, and most importantly God. Mary’s children and grandchildren will continue to carry the legacy she instilled in them. She leaves to cherish her memory her three children, Ronald Thomas, Merrick Thomas (Yvette Thomas), and Angela Thomas. Her 15 grandchildren, which two of them preceded her in death, Ronald Keith Thomas and Gregory Beecham and 11 greatgrandchildren. Her brother Foster Roberson Sr. (Maxine), who preceded her in death, Diane McCullough (Eddie), who preceded her in death and Floyd Wallace. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends.
