Daniel Madison Butler, 91, of Woodville, Alabama passed away peacefully on August 17, 2020, on the farm where he was born. Dan was born on September 25, 1928, the seventh of eight children of Robert L. and Almira B. Butler and was a graduate of New Hope High School. He was married to his wife, Elizabeth Louise Martin, for 62 years until her death and served his country in the Army during the Korean War. Dan worked as a commercial truck driver for several companies including Union Carbide Corp. and Southwest Motor Freight over a career that spanned 44 years. After retirement, Dan enjoyed reading, telling truck-driving stories, and spending time with his family. A lifelong member of the Paint Rock Seventh Day Baptist Church, Dan also served there as a trustee and a deacon.
Dan was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, four sisters Nancilu Stuart, Ruth Potts, Mary Alice Butler, and Bettie Pearson, two brothers James Edward Butler and Robert (Bob) Butler, Jr.
He is survived by one brother Thomas Gilbert Butler; three sons Stephen Butler (Angie), Jeffrey Butler (Leitha), and Rodney Butler; six grandchildren Bryn Butler (Jennifer), Zack Butler (Brandi), Blake Butler (Jennifer), Taylor Butler (Kacie), Sarah Vice (Alex), and Issac Butler; and five great-grandchildren Wyatt, Reid, Nathan, Josie, and Addie Butler.
A graveside service will be held at Bethel Cemetery on Keel Hollow Road, New Hope, Alabama, at 2:00 PM on August 22, 2020, with Pastor Clyde Thompson officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Dan’s grandsons and one great-grandson.
The family would like to express its sincere gratitude to the staff of Hospice of North Alabama for their loving care and assistance during Dan’s illness.
