Cecelia Kaye Sockwell, 66, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2016 after a valiant battle with cancer. She was a native of Sheffield, Alabama and a lifelong faithful member of the Church of Christ. Visitation will be Friday, December 8, 2016 from noon until 2:00 p.m. at Cox Boulevard Church of Christ. The service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Larry Kilpatrick officiating. Burial will be in Colbert Memorial Gardens. Kaye graduated from Sheffield High School in 1968 and attended Florence State College before beginning her 32-year career with Bellsouth/AT&T. She was transferred to Birmingham early in her career and spent many years there before moving back to the Shoals area after her retirement eight years ago. Kaye was baptized at a young age and she led many people to Christ by her lifetime of service to others, her shining example and her unconditional love. During her illness she was nurtured and comforted by the many friends and family members who adored her. Her unwavering strength was an inspiration to all of them. Left to cherish her memory are sisters, Becky Morris (Robert), Judy Hood (David), Sandy Sockwell (Jim) and a brother, Jackie Sockwell. She is also survived by beloved nieces and nephews: Betsy Puckett (Bradley), Mitch Morris (Amy), Eric Morris (Melissa), Jaimee Hannah (Corey) and Lacey Sockwell. Kayes great nieces and nephews were the light of her life and they loved their Kay-Kay. They are Rubye Puckett, Linciln Puckett, Abby Morris, Henry Morris, Molly Morris, Claire Morris and Carter Hannah. She was preceded in death by her mother, Rubye Newton Sockwell and her father, Jack Sockwell. Pallbearers will be Bradley Puckett, Mitch Morris, Eric Morris, Tim Hester, Russ Blackwell and Al Wooten. The family would like to offer special thanks to Kaye’s Church family and Elaine Witt who offered support, comfort, and compassion to the family throughout Kaye’s illness. Special thanks also go to Joyce Payne, Brenda Spires, Cottage of the Shoals, and Keller Hospice. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Back to the Bible Campaign at Cox Boulevard Church of Christ or to the Wooten Well Fund at Cross Point Church of Christ.
