Kathleen Corsbie (McGlathery) Gute, formerly of Decatur, entered into the presence of her Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today, at the Tahlequah City Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Go Ye Village Chapel in Tahlequah.
Kathleen Gute was born August 26, 1923, in Decatur, Alabama, to Roy and Kathleen McGlathery. Kathleen “Kitty” attended Wheaton College in Illinois, Baylor Hospital School of Nursing in Texas, and Southeastern Bible College in Alabama. She also served one year in the United States Army Nurse Corps and was honorably discharged. “Kitty” and Wayne met in Dallas and courted while preparing for missionary service at Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL), in Normal, Oklahoma during the summer of 1950. They were married in Guatemala on July 30, 1951. Together they served at CAM International (Camino Global) as missionaries to the Mam Indians of northwest Guatemala for 38 years. “Kitty” ran an outpatient clinic diagnosing and treating common diseases and performing “painless” dental extractions. She also taught health promoters to pull teeth and deliver basic medical care to remove villages. In later years, she was very involved in promoting and supporting the ministry of Bible classes in the public schools of Huehuetenango, a work that continues. They then returned to Decatur, Alabama and served an additional six years as mission representatives in the southeastern USA. Since 2000, they have resided at Go Ye Village in Tahlequah.
“Kitty” was devoted to her husband and children, her life work in four volumes: Esther, Daniel, Becky, and David-as Wayne so fondly refers to it. She loved people and was the happiest when serving. She invested in lives through encouragement and mentoring. Their home was always open to whoever came through. She was renowned for her cinnamon rolls, waffle suppers, and warm hospitality. “Kitty” was a woman of prayer and a lover of God’s Word with a bold testimony for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Wayland McGlathery and Munsey McGlathery.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne Gute; daughters, Esther (David) Claus, and Becky Gute; sons, Daniel (Diann) Gute, and David Gute; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be given to Camino Global for ministry among the Mam Indians [Camino Global, 8625 La Prada Drive, Dallas, Texas, 75228], or to the Golden Years Assistance Society at Go Ye Village [1201 W. 4th Street, Tahlequah, Oklahoma, 74464].
