“Robert “Cory” Livesay Sr., age 66, of Scottsboro, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home on July 22, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born and raised in Scottsboro, Cory proudly called the town home throughout much of his life. As a student at Scottsboro High School, he played the trumpet in the school band, beginning a lifelong appreciation for music.
In 1980, Cory enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he faithfully served his country for 17 years. His military career took him to duty stations across the country and abroad, including Las Vegas, Florida, and Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in North Carolina. During his service, Cory was deployed overseas in support of Operation Desert Storm, serving his country with honor and dedication. It was at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base that he met the love of his life, Debbie, while working under her father, Chief May. Their love story began in the Air Force and grew into a marriage filled with devotion and family.
After returning from military service, Cory and Debbie returned to Scottsboro in 1998 to raise their three children: Cory Jr., Shelby, and Michael.
Cory inherited his green thumb from his mother and found great joy in gardening and caring for plants. He loved music, cheering on Alabama football (Roll Tide!), enjoying a good bourbon, and never passing up the chance to rescue a stray dog in need of a home. Above all, Cory treasured time spent with his family and friends, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Debbie Livesay; his children, Cory Jr. Livesay and his wife, Angel; Shelby Livesay and her husband, Samuel Mitchell; and Michael Livesay. He was a proud grandfather to Aliyah, Atticus, and Phoenix Livesay, and Lilly-Ann and August Mitchell. He is also survived by his brother, Frank Livesay, and his family, and his godsister Denise Gothard.
Cory was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Peggy Livesay, and his sister, Cindy Batey.
A memorial service celebrating Cory’s life will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Scottsboro Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to attend and join in honoring his life and the memories he leaves behind. While we mourn his presence, we want to celebrate his life with color, guests are invited to wear whatever they’re comfortable in.
Cory will be remembered for his generous heart, unwavering love for his family, and wicked sense of humor. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the family he loved so deeply. Though he will be greatly missed, his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.”
