George Ronald Ison, 78, of Pell City, Alabama, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026, at UAB St. Vincent’s East. Born on September 29, 1947, in Ontonagon, Michigan, George was the son of the late George Ison and Marjorie Maxfield Ison.
George proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years aboard the USS Shangri-La aircraft carrier. Following his military service, he dedicated 33 years to American National Can, later known as Rexam, where he built a respected career before retiring.
George embraced life wholeheartedly. He had an adventurous spirit, a love for the open road, and an absolute commitment to Harley-Davidson motorcycles. He believed in living in the moment, finding joy in experiences, and making memories that would last a lifetime. Many of his most cherished memories are shared with his wonderful friends and golfing buddies at Pell City Country Club.
One of George’s favorite memories was marrying the love of his life, Lynn, nearly 27 years ago. True to their adventurous spirits, they exchanged vows on the shores of Lake Superior surrounded by George’s family. They wore T-shirts and blue jeans because they chose to wait for the perfect moment instead of planning for perfection. Their marriage was built on love, laughter, and many adventures together including a 3-week motorcycle ride across the country to Oregon to visit Lynn’s first newborn nephew.
George will be remembered for his independent spirit, his sense of humor, his love of family, and his ability to appreciate every moment. He leaves behind those who will forever cherish his memory, including his beloved wife, Lynn Milam Ison; his sister, Bonnie; and his brothers, Ken, Ed, and John.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Marjorie Ison; his sisters, Lucy and Edna; and his beloved son, Ben.
Though George’s journey on this earth has come to an end, the stories he created, the roads he traveled, and the love he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
