TENNESSEE VALLEY-Very cold temperatures across the region drove power demand to approximately 32,040 megawatts this morning. Temperatures are expected to drop into the low teens or lower on Wednesday with highs in the mid-30s, with the windchill near zero in some areas.
TVA is requesting voluntary load reductions by all customers, specifically between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22. At this time the power system remains stable, but voluntary reduction is needed to help ensure a continued supply of power to essential services throughout the Tennessee Valley and to avoid interruptions in service.
Customers should:
– Reduce your thermostat setting to 65-68 degrees for electric units.
– Postpone use of your clothes dryer, dishwasher, and stove/oven during peak times.
– Turn off non-essential appliances and lights.
TVA is actively monitoring weather conditions, and the power system remains stable, the utility said in a news release. The request does not indicate TVA is experiencing emergency conditions, it said.
