NEW HOPE-On Saturday, September 5, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office was requested by the New Hope Police Department to conduct a death investigation in the 2000 block of Oak Grove Road. New Hope Police were responding to a “check welfare” call when they located the deceased victim in the home. Detectives with the MCSO Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene and identified the deceased as 53-year-old Anna Young.

During the investigation, detectives identified the victim’s son, 23-year-old Donovan Axton Young, as a person of interest. A BOLO was issued to surrounding law enforcement agencies, whose officers continued working throughout the night to locate him. The Sheriff’s Office as well as Huntsville Police , New Hope Police and Owens Crossroads Police working together, along with help from the public helped to quickly locate the offender. Donovan Young was taken into custody Sunday morning and booked into the Madison County Jail Facility on a charge of murder.
“This was a tragic situation, and our thoughts remain with the family and everyone affected by this loss. I am extremely proud of the work of our detectives, crime scene personnel, and the surrounding agencies that assisted throughout the night. Their cooperation and determination led to a swift arrest in this case,” said Sheriff Kevin Turner.
