Deacon Tommie Lee Madden
March 10, 1935 – March 28, 2016
Tommie Lee Madden, 81, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2016.
Mr. Madden was born March 10, 1935, in Belle Mina, Alabama. He proudly served his country in the military, retiring in 1973 from the U.S. Army. Throughout his military career he served in various capacities and attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. After retiring from active duty, Sgt. Madden and his family settled in Huntsville, Alabama. He soon began his second career as a Military Instructor at Lee High School. He retired from Lee High School after 25 years, but not before touching and shaping numerous young lives.
For many years, Mr. Madden was an active member of the Al Azhar Shrine Temple #195 and the Pride of Lincoln Lodge #817. He served several teams as Worshipful Master.
Mr. Madden was a devoted member and usher at St. James Primitive Baptist Church in Huntsville. He later moved his membership to Taylor’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, where he continued to serve as an usher and eventually became a Deacon. He faithfully served as a member and officer of the Mallard Creek Ushers Union for 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and brother.
Mr. Madden is survived by his wife, Parthenia M. Madden, Huntsville; three daughters: Vicki (Earl) Malone of Athens, Vanessa (Harold) Weatherly of Huntsville and LaDonna D. Madden of Huntsville; one son: Stanley Martin of Athens; one sister: Vera Hinton of California; three grandchildren: Christopher, Reagan, and Stanley, Jr., and a host of loving family and friends.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 1, 2016 at the Taylor’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church (3100 Stringfield Road NW, Huntsville, AL 35810) with Pastor James Lane officiating. Interment will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens. Deacon Madden will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time.
Visitation with family and friends will be held from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Friday, April 1, 2016, at the Taylor’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church.
Public viewing will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 31, 2016 and 8:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 1, 2016 at the Royal Funeral Home.
