Sam Murbert Doaks, Jr. was born October the 11th, 1930 to the late Sam Murbert Doaks, Sr. & Jerlene Moore Doaks in Trenton, Tennessee. He & his sisters Leila Mae “Cricket” Sharp, Sara Elizabeth Triplett & Annie Lewis Green were raised on McMurray Road. He was baptised at our family church: Jamimah Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
As a child, Sam attended Mount Orange Elementary School & Trenton Rosenwald Negro School. He graduated from Rosenwald the summer of 1949. On January 22, 1951, he started welding at Allis Chalmers in West Allis, Wisconsin. Exactly 5 months later, June 22, 1951, he was drafted to the United States Army from Milwaukee. He served in the Korean War as a Corporal & Bridge Foreman. Sam received the Korean Service Medal with two bronze service stars & the United Nation Service Medal.
After being Honorably Discharged he returned to Milwaukee and retired from Allis Chalmers with nearly 30 years invested. He married Patricia Holloway and bore Samuel Craig Murbert Doaks, Sherry L. Doaks, & Brian Allen Doaks. He became a widower on June 23, 1969. He then met Dorothy Lee Scharlau, they married and in addition to becoming a husband, he became the father to Celeste Marie Clark & Brian Keith Clark. From this union, they bore Synthia Michelle Doaks & Sam Murbert Doaks, III. He became a widower again on May 15, 2001.
Sam M. Doaks, Jr. is also a member of the “million & a half mile club”, driving over a million road miles, and visiting all 50 States, Canada & Mexico. After retirement from Allis Chalmers, he joined the fleet at Rite-Way Bus Co. where he drove motor coach buses cross-country. He worked at Rite-way from 1986 through 2006.
He is preceded in death by his parents Sam Sr. & Jerlene; two sisters Sara & Cricket; two wives & grandson Damian Thomas. Sam is survived by his baby sister Annie, all his 7 children, 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren & 2 great-great grandchildren. He truly will be missed. Rest In Power! Rest In Peace!
