Robert “Bob” Barden LeMay passed away on December 26, 2014 at his home in Sheffield. Bob was born in Helen Keller Hospital 79 years ago to the late Ralph and Helen LeMay. His grandparents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Jim Barden of Ft. Meade, Florida and the late Mr. and Mrs. Bruce LeMay of Sheffield.
He is survived by his wife Barbara, his oldest son and daughter-in-law Russ and Tana LeMay and his youngest son, Evan LeMay. He leaves 6 grandchildren, Luke, Cade, Rhett, Sarah Beth, Mary-Helen, and Russell. He also leaves behind his brother, Ralph (Buddy) and sister-in-law Carole.
The family will receive friends at the First United Methodist Church in Sheffield on December 30, 2014 from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. with service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Oakwood cemetery, Sheffield. Rev. Bobby Scales, Rev. Zeke Haselden and Rev. Randy Burbank will officiate the service.
Bob was a graduate of the University of Alabama and a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He also served our country in the U.S. Army. He worked in professional scouting and retired after 30 years from his profession as a New York Life Agent. He was instrumental in the founding of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity chapter at the University of North Alabama.
He was a lifetime Kiwanian having served as President of the Sheffield Club. He was also a life-time member of Sheffield First United Methodist Church where he sang in the Chancel Choir and was a member of the Good ‘ole Boys. He sang with the group “The Wait-A-Minutes’.
Known for his quick wit and practical jokes, Bob was very loyal to his many friends especially his classmates of Sheffield class of ’53. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Active Pallbearers are Ronnie Holland, Billy Don Anderson, Joe Cooney, Tommy Brocato, Jim Savage, Johnny Horton and Sam Stribling.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Sheffield Class of 1953.
The family of Mr. LeMay expresses their thanks to Alacare, especially Michelle, Vickie and Chad.
