Clifford Hanners, born December 9, 1945, passed away peacefully at age 80 at his home, surrounded by family, on August 28, 2026. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.
Clifford was known for his hard work as a carpenter and home builder. He and his brother Charlie turned that craft into Hanners & Hanners Builders, building custom homes throughout Marshall County. Together, they grew the business for more than 30 years before retiring.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Peggy Hanners; sons, Mark Hanners (Meisha) and Steven Hanners (Amanda); brother, Charlie Hanners (Ruth); sister, Hazel Ruehl (Bill); grandchildren, Savanna Hamilton (Austin), Hope Warren (Carson), Brenley Hanners, and Braxton Hanners; and one great-grandchild, Cliff Hamilton.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dee Hanners; mother, Icie Hanners; brothers Therman Hanners, Herman Hanners, Sherman Hanners, and Richard Hanners; Elizabeth Clements; and grandson Alex Hanners.
Clifford enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing cards and games with friends and family.
Services for Clifford will be held Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel. Visitation for family, friends, and guests will be from 1:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 3:00 p.m. Jeff McLaughlin will officiate. Pallbearers escorting Clifford to his final resting place at Mt. Carmel Cemetery will be Carson Warren, Austin Hamilton, Joey Bishop, Marcus Flack, Quinton Spann, and Mike Sherrell, with Ronnie Baugh and Mike Penland serving as honorary pallbearers. Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
