Opal Jane Brewer, age 93, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2026, in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. She was born on September 3, 1932, in Collinwood, Tennessee, and lived a life defined by love, faith, compassion, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Opal was a woman whose heart knew no limits. She was the beloved mother of Joyce Mika, Peggy Culp, LaDonna McClurkan (Barry), Jeanette Carlstrom (Andrew), Damien Brewer (Lori), and Shane Brewer. She was also a cherished grandmother to Jody Mika (Micki), Jeremy Mika (Candice), Nick Hatfield (Amanda), Cale Hatfield (Lacey), Summer Capps (Alex), Kara Culp, and Kyland Brewer. Her legacy continues through her precious great-grandchildren: Emerson Mika, Ellis Mika, Amelia Mika, Ziya Culp, Aaliyah Culp, Maddux Hatfield, Jordan “JoJo” Hatfield, and Austin Hatfield.
Opal was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. Jemes Brewer, who passed away in 2005. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, service, and love.
For many years, Opal worked at Mallory Factory, where she formed lasting friendships and was deeply valued by those who knew her. She later continued serving her community through her work in the school system. Beyond her career, Opal’s life was a beautiful testament to compassion. As a foster mother, she opened her heart and home to many children in need, eventually adopting children of her own and inspiring others to do the same.
To know Opal was to feel loved. She had a remarkable gift for making every child feel like they were the most important person in her world. Her love was genuine, abundant, and unmistakable. She was known for her quick wit, joyful humor, and ability to lift spirits even in life’s darkest moments. Whether through her laughter, her singing, her dancing, or her steadfast encouragement, Opal brought light wherever she went.
A faithful and active member of her church, Opal was a devoted partner to her husband in ministry and service. Her faith was evident in the way she lived—through kindness, grace, and her deep care for others.
Opal Jane Brewer was truly one of a kind—an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, friend, and woman of faith. She was deeply loved and will be missed more than words can express. Though her family grieves her loss, they take comfort in the countless memories she gave them and the enduring example of love she leaves behind.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Opal’s life at Piney Grove Church. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will immediately follow.
We are asking that everyone wear purple or lavender (her favorite color) in her honor. Her love will remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
