Linda Ruth Sharpe Bonilla, 76, of New Market, Alabama, passed away on April 22, 2026.
Linda was born on January 1, 1950, in Huntsville, Alabama. She spent her life rooted in the community she loved, building a legacy of care, service, and quiet strength that will not be forgotten.
A graduate of Buckhorn High School and St. Vincent’s School of Nursing, Linda dedicated 47 years to Huntsville Hospital. Beginning as a floor nurse and rising to the role of Charge Nurse, she later taught the unit secretary class and concluded her career in Quality Management. Throughout her years in nursing, Linda mentored countless individuals, touched innumerable lives, and took deep pride in her work. She often said she would do it all over again – a reflection of her unwavering commitment to caring for others.
Linda was known for her stoic strength, compassionate nature, and ever-present smile. She carried herself with humility and quiet resilience, always putting others before herself. She had a true servant’s heart – if something needed to be done, Linda would be there, often without being asked, seeing it through from beginning to end.
She loved her church, Locust Grove Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and faithfully served in many ways, including organizing and supporting celebrations for others. She found joy in witnessing life’s milestones – weddings, new babies, and growing families – and took pride in being part of those moments. Linda also cherished her home in Hurricane Valley, on the land of her parents, holding close the history and roots that shaped her life.
To those who knew her best, Linda was simply someone who helped – always, and without hesitation. Whether it was working long hours to ensure things were done right, staying behind to clean up after an event, bringing thoughtful care packages, or quietly supporting others, her presence was steady and dependable. She enjoyed simple comforts – reading a book whenever she could and indulging in something sweet – and she deeply loved her family, especially her grandchildren, showing up faithfully to their games, activities, and milestones.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, David H. Sharpe and Allene Berry Sharpe, and her former husband, Xavier Bonilla.
She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Alyce Bonilla; her son, Christopher Albert Bonilla; her grandchildren, Sawyer Rich, Mallory Rich, and Logan Bonilla (Nickey); her great-grandchildren, Jasey, Kinsley, Weston, and Wyatt; her siblings, Randy Sharpe (Lori), Judy Sharpe Howland (Bambi), and Billy Sharpe; and her nieces and nephews, Kami Oliver (Dan), Krista O’Linger (Patrick), Brad Sharpe (Kendra), and Michelle Sharpe Howell (Buster).
Visitation will be held at Locust Grove Baptist Church Sanctuary on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 12:30 p.m., with Family Minister Lesha Everett speaking. A family graveside burial will follow.
Linda’s life was defined not by recognition, but by the countless quiet ways she showed up for others. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the people she helped, and the love she gave so freely.
