Obituary of Jimmy Calvin Heidelberg  Jimmy Calvin Heidelberg, age 85, passed away at his home on July 2, 2026.

He was born on July 27, 1940, and spent his life in this home. He was the son of Van and Daisy Heidelberg who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Reynolds, his niece Charmie Goforth, his brother, Van L. Heidelberg, and his nephew, Alan Heidelberg.

On March 11, 1962, Jimmy and Kay Stephenson were married. Together they raised two children, Tim Heidelberg (Tammy), and Regina Wade (David). They are blessed with two grandchildren, Kohnley Sumner (Chris) and T.J. Heidelberg. They are also blessed with one great-grandson, Levi Sumner.

Jimmy is survived by two sisters, Eula Jones of Memphis and Jean Abide of Madison, Mississippi, as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

Jimmy was employed by Kilgore Corporation in Toone for twenty-eight years. There he worked his way up to Supervisor of the Receiving Department.

For over forty-eight years, Jimmy was the director of the Maple Springs Cemetery near Mercer. Anyone who knew him was aware of his dedication to this position. He always made sure that the cemetery was neat and well cared for.

Jimmy was a very active member of Maple Springs Baptist Church until his health declined. Throughout his life he served as a youth leader, a trustee, a member of the Building and Grounds committee, and a member of the Pastor Search committee.

Jimmy served in the United States Navy for three years. He was stationed on the USS Hornet and served as the ship librarian. When he returned home, he was responsible for the set-up of the first library at Maple Springs Baptist Church.

 

Services will be held at Maple Springs Baptist Church near Mercer on Wednesday, July 8, with Bro. Justin Moreland and Bro. Mark McSwain officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation with the family will begin at 11:00 am, and the service will begin at 1:00 pm.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy’s nephews: Ben Stephenson, Chris Stephenson, Lane Todd, Joe McBride, J.P. Nichols, and Wade Oliver. Honorary pallbearers will be Travis Johnson, Larry King, Jerry Collins, and his buddy Archie Pack.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Jimmy’s memory to the Maple Springs Cemetery.
