Joseph W. “Joe” Bigos, 77, passed away on March 2, 2026, following a stay at Marshall North. He was born in Denver, Colorado, on August 13, 1949. Joe later moved to Fort Myers, Florida, before retiring to the beautiful community of Guntersville, Alabama.
Joe was an architect who specialized in the restoration of Gulf-front buildings. One of his greatest gifts was his ability to take a complex problem and break it down into something his clients could understand. That ability was his superpower.
Outside of his career, Joe had many passions. He loved working on plastic models, particularly military vehicles, and enjoyed the friendship and camaraderie he found at Wellness Center North. He loved listening to all kinds of music, with Of Monsters and Men being his favorite group. He also loved cruising with his wife, Jeanne, and treasured the memories they made together.
Joe married Jeanne in 1983, and together they shared 43 years of marriage. From the beginning, Joe was Jeanne’s partner in every sense of the word. He started her mornings by singing a little ditty and had an uncanny ability to make her laugh. His sense of humor was one of the things that made him so special.
Joe’s humor especially came alive when he was with his sister, Sue. Their shared, irreverent sense of humor could turn an ordinary moment into something memorable. The laughter they shared was a special part of their relationship.
Joe and Jeanne did not have children, but their family was filled with love through their beloved fur babies—Doc, Buddy, Barney, Charley, Doby, Buzzy, and Jep. They were an important part of their lives and very much a part of Joe’s heart.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, Lt. Colonel (ret) Francis Bigos, and his mother, Dorothy Bigos.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanne Bigos; his sister, Sue A. Bigos Schultz; nephew David Schultz and his wife, Shannon; niece Kathryn Schultz; and favorite person – brother-in-law Chuck Skinner.
Jeanne and the family extend their heartfelt gratitude to the many people who cared for Joe throughout his final days. Special appreciation goes to Dr. Morgan Jackson, Josie, and Jill of Lakeside Clinic for their excellent care, compassion, and kindness. The family is also deeply grateful to the incredible and compassionate nursing staff on the second and third floors of Marshall North. Their kindness, care, and support will never be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those wishing to honor Joe’s memory consider making a donation to Second Chance Shelter, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter in Boaz, Alabama. Joe had a deep love for animals, and a gift to help provide care and a second chance to animals in need would be a meaningful way to honor his memory.

A Celebration of Life for Joe will be held September 26,2026 at 1:30 at his home in Guntersville, Alabama, with a second celebration to follow in Denver, Colorado. Details will be announced at a later date.
Joe will be remembered for his brilliant mind, his ability to solve problems, his love of music and modeling, and, most of all, his wonderful sense of humor. But to Jeanne, he was so much more than any list of accomplishments could ever capture.
And he was deeply, deeply loved.
He will be missed more than words can say and loved forever and always.
