THE SHOALS – Well this was a special one. Terry Pace sure knows how to entertain a crowd, and Tuesday’s “Screening Room” at the Florence/Lauderdale Public Library was a prime example. This week being the W.C. Handy Music Festival, Terry brought together the guys from Muscle Shoals Sound Studios, who played such a big part in putting our little berg on the world stage. There was a screening of “Immaculate Funk”, the definitive story of Jerry Wexler, the man who elevated Rhythm & Blues of the 1970’s to stellar heights. Wexler’s son, Paul, attended the panel and gave much insight on his famous father. It was truly a magical afternoon. Music insider, Dick Cooper, whose remarkable photography of that golden era is on display at the library, spoke to the audience about his time spent within the music environs of that time.
Great job, Terry. You pulled off another masterpiece!
These are photos from Tuesday’s presentation. You will notice that there are also some photos that don’t look as though they were taken at the Library. Well, that is because they were not taken there. They were taken earlier in the day when Wexler had a chance to tour the world famous Muscle Shoals Sound Studio, at 3614 Jackson Highway in Sheffield. It was a few miles and a lifetime away from the Library.
The photos are suitable for downloading and printing on a photo printer or at your local drugstore… So enjoy! Just remember that these pics are for your private, NON-COMMERCIAL USE ONLY.
