SHEFFIELD — Get ready to dance, laugh, and celebrate the
power of standing up for what’s right when Hairspray takes the
stage at the historic Ritz Theatre in Sheffield, Alabama, September
24–27, 2026.
Set in 1962 Baltimore, Hairspray follows Tracy Turnblad, a plus-
size teenager with an even bigger dream: to dance on the popular
Corny Collins Show. When Tracy’s newfound fame gives her a
platform, she uses it to challenge racial segregation on the
television program and throughout her community.
Packed with energetic choreography, memorable characters,
infectious music, and an uplifting message about acceptance and
equality, Hairspray is a celebration of individuality and the courage
to make a difference.
Audiences can experience this high-energy musical at the Historic
Ritz Theatre, a beloved cultural landmark in downtown Sheffield.
The Ritz, a former 1927 silent movie house with its original Art Deco
character preserved, serves as one of the Tennessee Valley’s
premier venues for live theatre, concerts, and the performing arts.
