HUNTSVILLE – Governor Kay Ivey on Thursday, December 2 will join the FirstNet Authority, AT&T and U.S. Army officials to cut the ribbon on new FirstNet infrastructure at Redstone Arsenal. The new infrastructure will help advance public safety, improve connectivity for U.S. Army Material Command Headquarters and other Redstone Arsenal tenants including the FBI and NASA. The purpose-built FirstNet cell sites will enhance voice and mobile broadband coverage across the Army and give first responders on FirstNet access to always-on, 24-hours-a-day priority and preemption across voice and data.
In the fall of 2017, Governor Ivey first opted into FirstNet, on behalf of the state of Alabama. The wireless broadband network is intended to help Alabama’s first responders and save lives and protect communities.
Joining the governor will be Deputy Commanding General of Army Material Command Lieutenant General Donnie Walker, FirstNet Responder Network Authority board member Chief Richard Carrizzo, AT&T Alabama President Wayne Hutchens, among others.
The program is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. Central Standard Time.
