Elex was born May 1, 1934, in Lawrence County, Alabama, to the late Elex Elliott Sr. and Lucille Clay Elliott. He transitioned this life peacefully surrounded by his family on Feb. 19, 2016. Elex accepted Christ at an early age and joined Wheeler Chapel Church. He was employed for 25 plus years at Fruehauf Corporation until becoming medically disabled.
He loved to fish, hunt and play bingo. Although he struggled with complications from several strokes, his faith never wavered. He always was positive and never complained. He loved his family and friends and his infectious smile would light up the room. He had a memory that was phenomenal and would always let you know how he felt about something.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elex Elliott Sr. and Lucille Clay Elliott Jones; two children, Ellarene Smith and Alex Mosley; siblings, Louise Elliott, Bernice Swopes, Lethan Ann Hayes, Robert “John” Elliott, Earnest Stevenson and Ruby Broughm; father and mother in-law, Ernest and Cora Lee Horton Bell; brothers-in-law, Fred Bell, Willie Boykins and Woodrow Johnson.
He leaves to cherish his memory to his devoted wife of 52 years, Ernestine Bell Elliott, of Decatur; children, Leon (Georgia) Jones, of Madison, Elex Tyrone (Nichole) Elliott, Beatrice “BB” Moody and Dexter (Daphne) Elliott all, of Decatur; three brothers, Albert (Jean) Elliott Sr., Jimmy (Carolyn) Elliott and Harold (Irene) Elliott, all of Decatur; three sisters, Sara Boykins, Elizabeth (William) Swopes and Linda (Andrew) Watkins, all of Decatur; three sisters-in-law, Rebell Elliott, of Trinity, Alabama, Elizabeth Johnson and Catherine (Robert) Henry, both of Decatur; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a plethora other relatives and friends.
Special thank you to HGA Homecare, of Decatur, Hospice of the Valley, Dr. Hiteshris S. Bhavsar for the excellent and compassionate care given to our love one, and Wheeler Chapel Church for their faithfulness and love.
