Dorothy Tallon Arnts was born June 16, 1923, to Clarendon Barron Tallon and Lucy Lee Tallon in Florence, SC. She was a graduate of Florence High School and Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC. After college, she moved to Washington, DC with friends and served in the war effort as a cryptographer. She met her future husband Jerry, in DC and they married and moved to South Carolina, North Carolina, and Maryland, raising three children along the way, and finally moving to Huntsville where she lived for 60 years.
Mrs. Arnts was a member of Trinity Methodist church where she was a member of the Rebecca Circle, the Discovery Sunday School class, the alter guild (52 years), the Advent group and the Lenten group, and created numerous floral arrangements for Trinity brides over the years, making each one feel special. She delivered Meals on Wheels for 25 years and became friends with all she served. After her husband retired, Dot went to work at Brooks and Collier, saying she should pay them, she enjoyed the work so much.
She loved flowers and was a member of Hillside Garden club, Federated Garden Club, and Flower Show Judges Council #7. She was an avid bridge player and was a member of the Trinity Bridge Group and the neighborhood bridge group, and the Monday morning group. She was known for her letters to various organizations reminding them of their moral responsibilities and providing input on more appropriate subject matter, and many notes to the White House resulting in a multitude of letters arriving to her house from 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
Her philosophy has always been Faith, Family, friends, flowers and fun.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Winston Arnts, Jr., baby sister, Mary Kathleen Tallon, sisters, Ailsa Craig Tallon, Barron (Ronnie) Tallon Burch, and Lucy Tallon Melton.
She is survived by three daughters, Lucy Arnts of Birmingham, Melody Cox (Tim) of Pelham, Amy Arnts of Huntsville; brother-in-law, Lucius Hopkins (Bill) Melton of Johns Island, SC; grandchildren, Charli Cox Vorel (Justin), Joshua Andrew Cox (Jackie), and Courtney Cox; five great grandchildren; and many more cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Trinity United Methodist church Friday, August 20th at 1 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. The church requires masks and social distancing is preferred. There will be a private graveside service.
