David Stanley Mason – Obituary

David Stanley Mason, 68, passed away Sunday, December 18, 2016. He was born on November 25, 1948, in Rogersville, Alabama.

Visitation will be Tuesday, December 20th, 2016 from 4 – 6 p.m. at Goodsprings Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral service will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the church with military honors. Marty Mosley and Daniel Huntley will be officiating. Burial will follow in Dean – McNairy Cemetery.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Edward and Aline Mason; siblings Charles E. Mason and Elton R. Mason.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Judy Davis Mason; Daughters, Amy (Marty) Mosley; Melissa (Steve) Parker; grandchildren, Anna Mosley, Jackson Parker, Caroline Parker, Jenna Mosley and Keaton Parker; Sisters, Carolyn Clemons, Judy Box, Linda (Dearl) Belue; Brothers, Tommy Mason, James Mason, Donnie (Martha) Mason, Bobby (Diane) Mason; a host of nieces and nephews.

He was a 1968 graduate of Lauderdale County High School. He served as a radio man in the 4th Infantry of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was an honorably discharged veteran and a recipient of the Purple Heart and the Alabama Medal of Honor. He was a charter member and founder of Goodsprings Missionary Baptist Church. He was a Master Mason in the Rogersville Masonic Lodge #147. He was retired from International Paper where he worked for over 30 years as a digester operator.

David was a Christian. He loved Jesus, his family and he never met a stranger. He loved all people and showed that love daily by his words and actions. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time in nature. He was an encourager and a great listener. He also loved Auburn football. He always put others above himself. His favorite hymn was “When the Roll is Called Up Yonder” by James Milton Black. He always reminded people to be “Prayed up, packed up, and ready to be picked up.”

Pallbearers: Richard Mason, Jeff Mason, Greg Belue, Eddie Mason, Adam Mason, Makenzie Henson, Jackson Parker and Carmen Belue.
