Charles R. Perry, a retired Marshall Space Flight Center employee, died March 30. He was 83 years old. Mr. Perry, a native of Laurel, Mississippi, was a graduate of Mississippi State University and received a Master’s degree from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Subsequent to his retirement as a Director of Personnel at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, he worked for the City of Huntsville as Director of the Human Resources Department from 1989 to 1997 during Mayor Steve Hettinger’s administration. Mr. Perry served as an Army Artillery Officer during the Korean War, and after release from active duty he continued to serve a total of 32 years in the U.S. Army Reserve, retiring at the rank of Colonel. His last duty assignment, prior to retirement, was that of Commandant of the 3392nd U.S. Army Reserve School. He was a past president of the Reserve Officers Association and a member of the Military Officers Association.
Mr. Perry was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. T. Perry, and a brother, Kenneth Dale Perry, all of Laurel, Mississippi.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian M. (Mitzi) Perry; two sons, Phillip Perry and wife, Jackie, of San Diego, CA and Michael Perry of Dunwoody, GA; two grandsons, Trent and Conner Perry of Dunwoody, GA; and one sister, Bennie Smith of Laurel, MS.
It was the decedent’s request that his body be cremated, and that there be no funeral or burial. However, visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, any memorials in honor of the deceased be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
