WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Robert Aderholt (AL-04) today released some helpful hints for visiting Washington.
“With spring in full swing, families across the 4th District and Alabama are making summer vacation plans. Our nation’s capital of Washington, D.C. is an excellent choice that is filled with great history, great monuments and great sites. If it is on your list this summer, I have some tips on making the most out of your trip.
“With a new President and First Family in Washington, we are getting many questions about touring The White House. Tickets for White House tours are available through my office, but there are some very important details to keep in mind. Due to security, we cannot process requests that come to us less than 21 days from your visit. In fact, we recommend requesting tickets approximately three months in advance. “I also invite you to visit the place where I work, The United States Capitol Building. Tours of the Capitol are also available through my office. Your tour will include the Capitol Visitor Center, Crypt, Rotunda, Statuary Hall, and House Gallery.
“I also highly recommend a visit to Arlington National Cemetery. It is a solemn and very touching reminder of the sacrifices so many have made to keep our country free. In addition, President’s William Howard Taft and John F. Kennedy are buried at Arlington, along with the graves of the astronauts of the Space Shuttles Challenger and Columbia.
“The different Smithsonian museums are free, and hold some of our nation’s most treasured artifacts, from the Wright Brother’s plane, to the Apollo 11 crew capsule to Dorothy’s ruby slippers from the Wizard of Oz.
“A visit to the many memorials along the National Mall are also stops I recommend. At the World War Two Memorial, you might even spot World Two Veteran and former Senator Bob Dole.
