MONTGOMERY — The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Driver License
Division has been recognized on both a national and international stage after receiving the
prestigious 2026 American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) Service
Award for Customer Convenience during AAMVA’s Region 2 Conference held this week in
Austin, Texas. ALEA was selected as the winner in the category for:
“ALEA Cuts Wait Times with Smart Scheduling and Queuing – Regional and
International”
The award recognizes the Division’s innovative efforts to improve customer experience through
a modernized scheduling and lobby management system designed to reduce wait times and
streamline services for Alabamians statewide.
AAMVA’s annual awards program honors excellence among motor vehicle and law enforcement
agencies throughout North America. This year, more than 360 submissions were entered across
23 categories, placing ALEA among the top-performing agencies recognized for innovation,
service and operational excellence.
In February 2025, ALEA launched an automated platform that unified appointment scheduling
and lobby management into one seamless system accessible from any device. The upgraded
process significantly improved efficiency at Driver License Exam Offices across Alabama and
provided customers with a more convenient and user-friendly experience.
ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor said the national recognition reflects the Agency’s continued
commitment to innovation and public service.
“This award is a testament to the dedication, professionalism and forward-thinking approach of
ALEA’s Driver License Division,” said Secretary Taylor. “Our employees work diligently every
day to serve the people of Alabama, and this recognition demonstrates that their efforts are being
noticed on a national level. Improving accessibility, efficiency and customer service remains a
top priority for ALEA, and I commend the Division for leading the way in modernizing services
for our citizens.”
ALEA’s Department of Public Safety (DPS) Director, Colonel Jonathan Archer, praised the
employees whose dedication helped make the initiative a success.
“This award is a tremendous honor and reflects the hard work and commitment our Driver
License Division employees demonstrate every day,” said Col. Archer. “We are constantly
looking for ways to improve the customer experience for the citizens we serve, and this
recognition highlights the innovative efforts our team has made to reduce wait times and
modernize our services. I am incredibly proud of our staff for embracing this system and making
it successful across the state.”
Founded in 1933, AAMVA serves motor vehicle and law enforcement agencies across the
United States and Canada. The association’s mission focuses on driver safety, secure identities,
vehicle services and public safety initiatives.
The recognition underscores ALEA’s continued commitment to delivering efficient, modern and
customer-focused services while maintaining the highest standards of public service for Alabama
citizens.
