Vernon Roscoe Ivy – Obituary

Vernon Roscoe Ivy passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at home on Sunday, June 9, 2013. He was a gentle man who loved his family, his Lord God, gardening, sailing, traveling, and photography.

He enjoyed a long engineering career at Teledyne Brown engineering. He was very instrumental in the production of the Hubble Telescope, to name only one of the many space era projects of which he oversaw the manufacturing.

He served in the US Air Force in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Vernon attended Auburn University and was an elder at Central Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Suzanne Bascue Ivy, his parents, Peter Roscoe and Carrie Vastus Ivy, sisters Vastus Cummings, Eva Taylor, Laura Mae Hudgins, and Willie Dysart, brothers James Ivy and Carroll Ivy and their respective spouses.

He will be greatly missed by his surviving family: his wife, Belinda Sloan Ivy, two daughters, Debora Lauer and husband, Ted, and Angela Krueger and husband Carl. Four grandsons, Peter Krueger, Mark Krueger, Cody Lauer, and Zachery Lauer, and one granddaughter, Kristle Krueger. He leaves two stepchildren, Frank Gilliam and wife Joy, Shelley Hildebrand and husband, Kieth as well as four step grandchildren: Josh and Mallory Hildebrand and Caitlin and Ella Gilliam. He is survived by several nephews, nieces and great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Wednesday at 1:00 at the Cooper House of Central Presbyterian Church with a service following at 2:00 in the CPC Sanctuary with Dr. Randall Jenkins officiating. Burial will be afterwards at Maple Hill Cemetery.
