Roger William Kitchen Sr., 84, of Madison, Alabama passed away from lung cancer on January 28, 2026, in his home.
Roger, Sr. was born in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania to Edgar Alan Kitchen and Velma LaRue Kitchen on October 30, 1941. He graduated from Beaverdale-Wilmore High School, Beaverdale Pennsylvania, in 1959. He worked for the Army as a Civil Servant for nearly 34 years. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, traveling with his wife and friends, working in his yard and flower beds, reading, and spending time with his family. He received numerous awards during his career with the Army and was awarded the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service upon his retirement from federal service in August 2000.
He was a kind, compassionate, and selfless man. He would give you the shirt off his back and there was nothing he wouldn’t do to help his immediate and extended family and friends. He was a true gentleman.
Roger Sr. is survived by his wife, Rhoda Kitchen; daughter, Nikki Kitchen-Wenrich; son, Roger Kitchen Jr.; daughter-in-law, Sandi Kitchen; brother-in-law, Gary Nastase; granddaughter, Laura Wenrich; grandsons, Roger Kitchen, III, and Michael Kitchen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Velma; father, Edgar; sister, Linda Kitchen; and brother, David A. Kitchen, Sr.
Visitation will be held at Laughlin Service Funeral Home (2320 Bob Wallace Ave. SW Huntsville, AL 35805 on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 2:00 – 3:00 PM with family and friends. A memorial service will follow with Pastor Chip Woosley of The Brook Church officiating from 3:00pm – 3:30pm in the chapel of the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in his name.
