It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Helen Kulaw, age 97, of Las Vegas, Nevada. Our beloved mother passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026, surrounded by love and memories of a life well lived.
Born on July 31, 1928, Helen was the cherished daughter of Frank and Bertha Gorski. After graduating from Theodore Roosevelt High School in 1946, Helen began her professional journey at Michigan Bell. On November 6, 1948, she married the love of her life, Chet Kulaw, and began her family story, raising five children in Allen Park, Michigan until the family was transferred to Decatur, Alabama in 1972.
Chet and Helen retired to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1989. They were one of the original homeowners at the Del Webb’s Sun City Summerlin development, enjoying a wonderful retirement with all of the fun and excitement of living in Las Vegas. They moved to Oakmont of the Lakes Assisted Living when they were in their 90’s.
Helen enjoyed many activities over the years, including her favorite, “Bingo,” traveling, playing cards, shopping, visiting casinos, reading, making puzzles, watching golf tournaments, dining out, and most of all, spending time with family and friends.
Over the years, Helen and her husband were active members at St. Frances Cabrini (Michigan), St. Ann (Alabama) and St. Elizabeth Seton (Nevada) Catholic Churches.
Helen is survived by her children Lenore (Kenn) Denys, Karen (Chip) Van Kampen and Gary (Deb) Kulaw, numerous grand children and great grandchildren, and her sister, Joan Hart. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 74 years, Chet Kulaw, son, Mark Kulaw (survived by wife Linda Kulaw) and daughter, Stacy Smeltzer (survived by husband Tommy Smeltzer).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
