Venita WyVonne Chewning, 82, cherished wife, mother, Mamaw, and dedicated librarian, passed away to be with the Lord on February 1, 2025. She was deeply devoted to her husband and lovingly raised her daughters. After her daughters were grown, she served as the librarian at Winthrop for 25 years, a job she truly loved, where she connected with many patrons and touched countless lives. Venita was also an active member of the First Baptist Church of Winthrop for many years, where she found joy in her faith and fellowship with her church family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Earl Edward and Annie Marie Altenbaumer, her brother, Earl E. Altenbaumer Jr., her sister, Delitha (Belle) Clowdis, and her beloved husband of 55 years, Merle Chewning.
Venita is survived by her two daughters, Tracy Renee Hemeyer (and Daniel) of Meridianville, AL, and Vonda Kay Marchand (and Michael) of Grant, AL, as well as six grandchildren, Mich, Jaeden, and Tristan Marchand, Kacy (Hemeyer) League, Jake Hemeyer, Mackenzie (Hemeyer) Hawkins, and one great-granddaughter, Lakelyn League.
Venita had a special talent for making the best chocolate chip cookies, and she loved shopping, working in the yard, singing, and attending church. Above all, she cherished visiting her daughters and grandchildren, where her love and devotion will be remembered forever.
Funeral services for Mrs. Chewning will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the Winthrop Baptist Church with Bro. Audie Dawson officiating. Burial will follow in the Campground Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 7, 2025, at the funeral home in De Queen.
