Joan Binkley Powell, age 90, of Springfield, passed away Friday, October 16, 2026, at her home. Funeral services will be conducted at 1pm Tuesday, October 20th, in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield, with Rev. Taylor Kibler officiating. Burial will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Daniel Stagner, Allen Powell, Chuck Head, Mark Hix, Billy Seeley and Michael Graves serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Bob Adcox, Jerry Winters, Don Hix, Winn Woodard, Joe Dorris, Neil Sutherland and Dr. Michael Lewis.
The family will receive friends from 10am until 1pm Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Powell was born July 6, 1936, in Greenbrier, to the late Thomas and Maggie Binkley. She was a loan officer with local banks for many years and was a member of New Chapel Methodist Church, but had been attending her home church, Mount Sharon Cumberland Presbyterian.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Boyd Powell; 2 brothers and 6 sisters.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol (Mike) Justice; 2 grandchildren, Sarah (Jody) Dorris and Joshua (Bethany) Justice: and 5 great granddaughters, Josie Justice, Jamie Justice, Jillie Justice, Charlie Dorris and Sadie Dorris.
