Mr. Walter “Dido” Eugene Hackney, age 85, of Beechgrove, TN passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, July 15, 2023. He was born in Springfield, TN to the late Herbert and Ola Mae Poole Hackney. For a short time, Mr. Hackney proudly served his country in the United States Army National Guard. He worked for Allvan and Nissan before his retirement and was a faithful member of Lakewood Baptist Church. Mr. Hackney loved to be outside and tinker in his garage. His love for animals was unconditional earning him the nickname “Dr. Doolittle.”
Mr. Hackney is survived by his children, Pamela Brownlee and Phillip Hackney; grandchildren, Tracy Brooksher and her husband Bobby, Shane Layhew and his wife Brandie, Rusty Layhew, Steven Hackney, and Amber Brennstuhl and her husband Adam; great-grandchildren, Maisie Diseker and her husband Dach, Rickey Brooksher, Garner Brooksher, Haelee Brooksher, Payton Layhew, Teagan Layhew, Greyson Layhew, Madisyn Layhew, Autym Conaster and her husband Dylan, Andrea Brennstuhl, and Adalyn Brennstuhl; great-great-grandchildren, Ryker and Lylah Diseker; brother, Bennie Hackney and his wife Jane; numerous nieces and nephews; and faithful canine companions, Big Bo and Little Bo. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Earline Hackney, and eleven brothers and sisters.
Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, July 18, 2023 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at 1:00pm at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
