Alan Krichev, a long-time resident of Guntersville, passed away Thursday at home after a brief illness. A clinical psychologist, Dr. Krichev came to Guntersville with his family in 1977 to assume the role of clinical director at the Marshall Jackson Mental Health Center. He was a member of Guntersville Rotary Club. He eventually started a private practice in Gadsden, Gadsden Psychological Services, and later added a location in Boaz, CTA Services, in order to serve a wider area.
He was born June 25,1943, in Philadelphia and grew up in New Jersey. He graduated from Susquehanna University, obtained a master’s degree from University of New Hampshire, and a doctorate from University of Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
Before he was disabled in the spring of 1999, he was an avid traveler, racquetball player, model train builder, gardener, and Crimson Tide fanatic. As his family grew, he spent ever increasing time supporting his children’s and grandchildren’s various sports and activities. Swim team consumed summers, with dance recitals, basketball games, band, and football the rest of the year.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela; four children, Jennifer Rogers (Charles), of Memphis; Bruce Kirby, of Guntersville; Jessica Leven (Christopher), and Jonathan Krichev (Alicia), of Huntsville; grandchildren Elizabeth Harvey (Evan), of Memphis; Chaz Rogers (Jordan), of Huntsville; Ayla Kirby, of Memphis; Thomas Kirby, a student at Wake Forest University; Julia, Audrey, Sophia, and Charlotte Krichev, and Max and Jacob Leven, all of Huntsville. He had one great grandchild, Lula Mae Rogers, of Huntsville.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested donations to Guntersville Ladies Civitan Club for the Every Child’s Playground project.
