Walter James King Jr. was born in Muscle Shoals, Alabama on Oct. 30, 1950 to the late Walter J. King Sr., and Marie Bates King. He was the second of five children born to this union. His brothers, Donell King and Dwight King preceded him in death.
Walter accepted Christ as his savior at an early age. He united with the Mt. Olievia Missionary Baptist Church where he remained a member until his death on Dec. 22, 2016.
Walter began school in Muscle Shoals where he attended Mt. Olievia School. Later when the family moved to Florence, Alabama, he began his journey as a “Might” Burrell/Slater Tiger. Walter proudly graduated from Burrell in May 1969. He and his fellow graduates consider themselves a special group because they were the last class to graduate before the school closed. They formed a special bond that remains until this day. Walter loved his school and his classmates.
Shortly after graduation, Walter joined the Navy where he served on the USS Little Rock until his discharge in 1971. He returned home and was eventually hired at Reynolds Aluminum which became Wise Alloys. He retired in Feb. 2014 after 42 years of service.
Walter loved God and his church family, he loved his family immediate and extended. He loved the outdoors, gardening and sharing his vast knowledge on every subject. He was kind and always the first in line to help anyone in need. He loved to cool and eat, but his greatest joy was feeding others. He never offered anything but the best he had.
Walter married Sharron Parker on Feb. 12, 1985. His uncle Willie James and her friend Wendy always took credit for them getting together, but they gave credit to God for almost 32 years of marriage. Sharron’s family fell in love with him and all South Alabama adopted him as their own. To their union one child, Ebone Jamilia King was born.
Besides Sharron and Ebone, he leaves to cherish his memories, two sons, Alexis Morris and Lamontre Lewis; sister, Marlene (Benjamin) Garth; brother, Bryan (Carla) King; grandchildren, Trerail Ricks, Alexis Q. Morris, Brooklyn Morris, and his “Sweet Soul Man”, Carter James; father and mother-in-law, Percy, and Dornell Parker; aunts, Arthurine Stevens, Emma (William) Finley, Betty Fort, Dorothy Malone, and Joyce (Willie) Hodges; uncles, Joe (Conchetta) Fort, and Willie James Fort; niece, Brittney King, nephews, Demond (Amber) Garth and Brandon (Lynn) Garth; sister in love, Dorothy King Buchanan; brother in love, Marcus (Julie) Parker; special friends, Minivis Thompson, Mansfield Key, Harrison Johnson, Willie Coffey, Willie Fred Brown, and Wendy Harris; and a host of other family that he loved so very much.
