ATHENS-A $400,000 grant awarded by Governor Robert Bentley will help a long-time Limestone County industry expand and add 10 new jobs to its existing 115-person workforce.
The Community Development Block Grant will enable the city of Athens to provide 
needed sewer services at Cast Products Inc. in Athens. The company, which manufactures cast-aluminum products for firefighting, police, medical, trucking and marine vehicles, has been in business for 36 years and is expanding to meet growing demand.

“Cast Products, like so many small businesses in Alabama, provide valuable jobs and plays a vital role in Alabama’s economy,” Bentley said. “I am always pleased to support the development and expansion of an Alabama small business.”
Connecting with the Athens sewer system is the most viable and least costly method of disposing of the company’s increase in wastewater generated by the expansion, according to city officials. The company currently relies on a private septic system.
Bentley notified Mayor William R. Marks that the grant had been approved. The city is providing $100,000 in matching funds for the project.

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available to the state by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, infrastructure upgrades, recreation, energy, water resources, job training and career development.
