TUSCUMBIA-As America commemorates its 250th anniversary, Colbert County Tourism is celebrating one of
the nation’s greatest cultural exports: American music.
Colbert County Tourism is proud to announce the launch of We Rocked the World: The Stories
Behind the Songs, a podcast dedicated to preserving the voices, memories, and untold stories
of the artists, musicians, producers, engineers, and songwriters who helped make Muscle
Shoals one of the most influential recording destinations in the world.
Hosted by Muscle Shoals music icon Billy Lawson and recorded at Wishbone Studios in Muscle
Shoals, the podcast takes listeners behind the music through candid conversations with the
people who lived it. Each episode offers a firsthand look at the moments, relationships, and
recordings that helped shape not only the Shoals’ musical legacy, but the soundtrack of
America.
“Tourism is about more than places. It’s about preserving and sharing the stories that make
those places meaningful,” said Susann Hamlin, President and CEO of Colbert County Tourism.
“These conversations capture an important piece of American music history directly from the
people who lived it, ensuring those stories will continue to inspire future generations.”
The podcast launches today, July 22, with its debut episode, “Picking Through the Past with
Travis Wammack,” featuring legendary guitarist Travis Wammack, whose groundbreaking style
helped influence generations of musicians. The second episode, “Behind the Brass with Ronnie Eades,” featuring Muscle Shoals Horns saxophonist Ronnie Eades, will be released on August 3, with additional episodes to follow.
Future episodes will continue to feature the people whose talent, creativity, and passion
transformed a small corner of Northwest Alabama into a place recognized around the globe.
From chart-topping hits to unforgettable recording sessions, each conversation helps preserve
a chapter of music history that might otherwise be lost.
As communities across the country celebrate America 250, Colbert County Tourism sees the
podcast as another way to preserve and share an important piece of our nation’s cultural
heritage. The stories told in each episode are more than memories. They are firsthand accounts
from the people whose music became part of America’s soundtrack.
Whether you’re a lifelong fan of Muscle Shoals music or discovering its legacy for the first time,
We Rocked the World: The Stories Behind the Songs offers an opportunity to hear history from
the voices that created it.
The podcast is available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Amazon Music, with new episodes
released throughout the year.
