FLORENCE – North Alabama Medical Center (NAMC) and North Alabama Shoals Hospital have been awarded two grants totaling $302,607 through the initial round of Governor Kay Ivey’s Alabama Rural Health Transformation Program (ARHTP).
Administered by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA), the grant funding supports high-impact healthcare projects across the state aimed at improving patient care, expanding access, and strengthening rural medical infrastructure.
As part of the statewide initiative, each facility received funding dedicated to specialized local health needs:
- North Alabama Shoals Hospital ($179,607): Funding will support the implementation of an artificial intelligence-enabled patient monitoring system tailored for the facility’s geriatric psychiatry and inpatient rehabilitation units. The technology is designed to enhance patient safety by improving fall prevention monitoring and real-time clinical response.
- North Alabama Medical Center ($123,000): Funding will establish a coordinated telecardiology program to expand access to specialized cardiac care for rural patients across Lauderdale and Franklin counties, bridging critical gaps in specialty care close to home.

The awards are part of a broader $144 million state grant rollout supported by federal assistance through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
