James Marvin Howard Profile Photo Mr. James Marvin Howard of New Market passed away peacefully on Friday at his home while surrounded by his loving family. He was 82. He had retired from Madison County where he had faithfully cared for Sharon Johnston Park for 20 years.

A lifelong member of the New Market community, he was a graduate of Buckhorn High School and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Above all, he loved his family, and his children and grandchildren were the center of his life. He also enjoyed playing Rook and listening to country music, especially his favorites, Johnny Cash and George Jones.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie & Kate Howard; his brother, Tommy Howard; his sister, Sue Moore.

Surviving family members include his wife of 57 years, Mary Teague Howard; his son and daughter-in-law, Phillip & Jaclyn Howard; his daughter and son-in-law, Penny & Michael Holder; two grandchildren: Hannah (Nick) Cook and Dawson (Megan) Holder; his sister, Janie Miller; He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 23, 2026 from 2pm until 4pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 4pm at the funeral home. A graveside service will be Monday, August 24, 2026 at 11am at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in New Market.

The family would like to express their thanks for the special care provided for Mr. Howard by Crystal Holder of Hospice Family Care.
