MUSCLE SHOALS-TVA, in partnership with Discover Life in America, recently hosted a BioBlitz at Rockpile Trail near Muscle Shoals, AL. A BioBlitz is a community science event where members of the community come together to document as many species as they can find in a short amount of time. The results give a snapshot of what species exist in an area at a given time.

A total of 47 TVA and community members participated in the two days of exploration and discovery. Participants contributed an impressive 557 observations, documenting 302 unique species. You can keep track of new findings as they’re added, and numbers will continue to update at this link: iNaturalist Project – Muscle Shoals BioBlitz.

Thanks to everyone’s enthusiasm and hard work, our ongoing project now stands at a total of 1,074 species, an increase of 179. This collaboration demonstrates the power of community science in expanding our understanding of local biodiversity.
