Jeff Johnson passed from this life to the hope of God’s eternal kingdom peacefully in his sleep on January 2nd after a 4-year battle with Lewy Body dementia.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Dr. JoAnn Johnson; daughter, Angelica Lee (Ryan Lee); and granddaughters, Sophia and Camilla. He is also survived by two sisters, Laurie Jacobs (Mark Jacobs) and Paula Fleischmann (Jimmy Fleischmann); two stepsons, Matthew Boshell (Nicki Boshell) and their children Ava, Levi, Jakob, and Nova; along with stepson, Kevin Brooks (Tori Jones) and their children, Ainslee, Maliyah, Kacelynn, and Jayde.

Jeff spent his working life as a financial advisor and stockbroker for Lehman Brothers before becoming an independent stockbroker working at home. He also loved children so much that he had a second “career” as Sparkles the Clown entertaining kids with magic shows and balloon animals for many years including large groups at elementary schools and individuals in the hospital. One of his other great interests was playing duplicate bridge and he became a gold life master and taught Fundamentals of Bidding and Play at the Thursday Night Bridge group and at several regional tournaments. He took magic lessons for several years from well-known local magician, Russell Davis, and took dance classes for over 30 years. He was Russell’s successor as Drosselmeyer in the alternate Nutcracker with Performing Dance Arts, which was staged for several years, and served on the Grissom High School Parents Dance Board.

Jeff loved music, especially Rock and Roll, and he played bass guitar in a local band in his 30s. His idea of fun was to find a good rock and roll band playing somewhere with a dance floor and dance the night away!

Jeff loved sports, especially baseball, basketball, golf, and football. He coached little kids and teenagers in little league baseball, girls’ softball and boys’ basketball for several years. During football season, he never missed watching an Auburn game – War Eagle!

He was truly a man of many interests and talents, and he will be sorely missed by his family.

The family would like to thank Katie Payne and all her staff members at Loving Spaces for the great loving care with which they treated Jeff during the last year of his life.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral will follow in the chapel with the Rev. Mark Jacobs officiating.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association (https://alz.org).
