Winona Imogene Comer – Obituary

Winona Imogene Comer, age 90, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2015, at Golden Living Center in Tupelo, Mississippi.
She was born October 25, 1925 in Mantachie, Mississippi and was the daughter of Tom and Vera Jones Taylor.

Imogene attended Mantachie Grammar School and Itawamba Agricultural High School where she played on the basketball team. She married Theodore Franklin Comer September 16, 1941, and they made their home in Fulton. In their early years, Imogene worked from their home in Downtown Fulton at their laundry service and later worked for Rex Brown’s Manufacturing while Mr. Comer served three terms as a Fulton Alderman and operated Comer Milling and Farm Supply between 1961 and 2000. Imogene was a member of First Baptist Church in Fulton.

Services will be at 11 am on Thursday December 10, 2015 at Senter Funeral Home in Fulton with Dr. Jim Comer officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 am to 11 am Thursday at Senter Funeral Home.

She is survived by a son, Jim (and Penny) Comer and of Plaquemine, Louisiana, and two daughters, Patty Comer of Biloxi, Mississippi, and Susan Comer(and Margaret) of Brentwood, Tennessee. She is also survived by two grandsons: Jason Comer of Phoenix, Arizona and Ben Comer, also of Phoenix, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by: her husband Theo Franklin Comer in 2003; their son Billy Gene Comer in 2006; two brothers, Lowell T. Taylor and Gerald T. Taylor, and two sisters; Charlene Kelso and Nelda McCarthy.

Pallbearers will be Jim Chandler, Matt Stanford, San Weatherford, Larry Pate, Trent Bennett, and Matt Upton.
