Wanda Zella Higgins Blair, 88, of Athens, passed away Wednesday night, just a few hours shy of her 89th birthday. Services will be held Saturday, March 14, 2026, at First Presbyterian Church on the Square in Athens. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., with the funeral service following. Burial will take place at Hatchett Cemetery with Spry Funeral Home directing.

Wanda, known as “Anda” to her grandchildren, was born at home in Ardmore, Alabama, on March 12, 1937, to William Floyd “Chi Chi” Higgins and Thelma Louise Higgins, known as “O’Mother.” She graduated from Ardmore High School in 1954 and later attended Athens State College. In 1957, she married the love of her life, Wade H. Blair, beginning a marriage built on love, partnership, and family.

Wanda worked as an executive secretary for Chemstrand until she chose to devote herself fully to raising her children, Hamilton and Lucretia. Her family was the center of her world, and she created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unwavering love. After raising her children, she returned to work for several years at the Patton, Latham, Legg & Cole law firm as their receptionist and bookkeeper.

A lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, Wanda faithfully served in many roles over the years. Her quiet devotion and humble spirit reflected her deep faith. She cherished her church family and was known for her kindness, her welcoming heart, and her love of sharing a good story.

She loved collecting rocks from her travels, spending time with her pups, and catching up with friends.

Above all, Wanda treasured being “Anda.” She was the most loving and devoted grandmother to her four grandchildren, who brought her endless pride and joy. She delighted in their lives, celebrated their milestones, and made each of them feel deeply loved. Her legacy lives on in the laughter, memories, and values she passed down to them.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wade H. Blair, and her grandson, Jack Blair.

She is survived by her children, Hamilton Blair (Lesli) and Lucretia Blair Woodroof (Sanders); her grandchildren, Will Blair (Alesha), Maggie Woodroof, and Sam Woodroof; and her pup, Peppers.
Wanda’s life was defined by her love for her family, her faith, and her spirited personality. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Potter’s Hand at First Presbyterian Church on the Square, 112 South Jefferson St., Athens, AL 35611. Donors can make checks out to the church and indicate on the memo line it is for The Potter’s Hand.
