Logo IconVitaliana “Yana” Lacapria Alfonzetti, affectionately known as the “Italian Diva,” passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at the Coen House in Tupelo, a division of Methodist Senior Services. In keeping with her wishes, she will be cremated.

Born on October 16, 1947, in the beautiful seaside town of Scilla, Italy, Yana carried her Italian heritage with pride throughout her life. Whether she was preparing a favorite family recipe, tending to her flowers, or sharing stories of her homeland, Italy was always close to her heart. Yet her greatest love was her faith in the Lord, which guided her through every chapter of her life.

Yana was preceded in death by her parents, Giovanni Alfonzetti and Philomena Pontillo Alfonzetti, and her brother, Raphael Alfonzetti.

She leaves behind her sister, Concetta Santafornia of Italy; her brother, Rocco Alfonzetti of Connecticut; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members in both Italy and the United States.

With courage and determination, Yana left Italy and made her way to New York City in the 1970s, where she proudly became a United States citizen. She later settled in Las Vegas, building a life filled with hard work, treasured friendships, and the pursuit of her greatest passion—antiques. While she worked for many years at the El Cortez Casino and Union Plaza Hotel, those who knew her best understood that her heart belonged to the antique business. She had a gift for seeing beauty and value in things others might overlook, a trait that extended far beyond the treasures she collected.

Yana never met a stranger. Her outgoing personality, quick wit, and unmistakable flair made her unforgettable to everyone she met. The many friends she made in Las Vegas held a special place in her heart, including Joann Comerfrord, Ginger Johnson, Steve Castle, Wally Napier-Psomas, Eugene Alexander, and Wendy Shepherd. To Yana, friends became family, and she remained loyal to those she loved.

When declining health led her to Mississippi, her dear friend Nancy Bray lovingly helped her make the transition. What could have been a difficult season instead became another chapter filled with friendship and love. During her years at Traceway Manor, Yana formed special bonds with Mindy Carr, Jessica Wadlington, Tony Miles, April Robbins, Mike Swindell, and Will Skinner. She was also blessed by the kindness and support of Ethan Bray, Paige Bray, Cynthia Owen, and Rena Brown.

Yana found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved cooking authentic Italian meals, working in her garden, admiring beautiful jewelry, and spending time with babies, who could always bring a smile to her face. She possessed a vibrant spirit and a personality larger than life. Her confidence, elegance, and love of being just a little glamorous earned her the nickname “Italian Diva,” a title she wore proudly and one that fit her perfectly.

Though her family was separated by miles and oceans, they were never far from her thoughts or her heart. She cherished her loved ones deeply and treasured every memory she shared with them.

Those honored to serve as honorary pallbearers are Ethan Bray, Tim Brown, Matt Brown, Tony Miles, Mike Swindell, and Will Skinner.

Yana’s life was a journey marked by courage, faith, friendship, and love. From the shores of Italy to the bright lights of Las Vegas and finally to the welcoming embrace of Mississippi, she left an impression everywhere she went. She will be remembered for her warmth, her spirited nature, her devotion to those she loved, and the joy she brought into the lives of others. Her memory will forever be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
