flplFLORENCE-The Florence-Lauderdale Public Library have several events scheduled for November.  From self-help lectures to book signings even a cemetery tour on Veterans Day to tour the Old Cemetery where several veterans from past wars are laid to rest.

Veterans Day Cemetery Tour

at the Florence City Cemetery, sponsored by Florence-Lauderdale Public Library
In honor of Veterans Day, the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library will be hosting a Veterans Day Cemetery Tour at the Old City Cemetery on November 10 at 1:00 pm. This historic cemetery is the final resting place of hundreds of American warriors who served in every major American conflict between the War of 1812 and the Vietnam War. During this stroll, local historians Lee Freeman and Clint Alley will introduce you to the stories of many of those brave men buried in the old cemetery. This event is free of charge, and participants should meet the tour guides at the parking lot on the East College Street entrance to the cemetery, near the Florence-Lauderdale County Animal Control headquarters. Dr. Beth Cabrera will be at the library to sell and sign copies of her book Beyond Happy: Women, Work, and Well-Being.

Over the course of a decade, positive psychology authority Dr. Beth Cabrera has surveyed and interviewed more than a thousand women to gather insight into how to effectively balance career and family responsibilities. Dr. Cabrera’s book gathers essential findings and offers women proven strategies for living more authentic, meaningful lives.

Beth Cabrera is a senior scholar at the Center for the Advancement of Well-Being at George Mason University. She works with companies to help them create positive work environments where people thrive. Her approach, based on the latest research from the field of positive psychology, is extremely effective in developing leaders, building teams, and advancing careers.

Cabrera’s expertise was gained through years of experience teaching, conducting research, and advising organizations on how to maximize employee engagement and performance. Her research has been published in over 30 articles in some of the world’s leading academic and professional journals.

After earning her PhD in industrial/organizational psychology from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Cabrera joined the faculty of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, one of Spain’s top universities. Upon returning to the United States she continued her academic career as a professor of management at Arizona State University and later as a senior research fellow at Thunderbird School of Global Management. In 2009 Beth founded Cabrera Insights to help organizations achieve peak performance by increasing workplace positivity. Book Talk/Signing – Jim & Nancy: Two Paths Merged by War by Danny Creasy

Karen Creasy, Dr. Monty Shelton, John Butler, and Danny Creasy will read excerpts from Danny’s book, Jim & Nancy: Two Paths Merged by War. The reading selections are from December 1944 in honor and memory of those who fought 71 years ago in the Battle of the Hürtgen Forest and the Battle of the Bulge. A presentation of historic photographs will accompany the readings.

The program is scheduled for Saturday, December 12, 2015, and will begin at 10:30 A.M.. Following the one-hour presentation, the author will be available to sign copies of Jim & Nancy. An attendee may purchase a copy at the event ($16.00) or bring his or her previously acquired copy for signing. With Christmas looming and gifting always being a seasonal challenge, the author is offering multi-copy purchase discounts of two for $30, three for $42, or four for $52.
